A Legacy of Family-Owned Excellence
Louis Roederer, one of the largest remaining independent Champagne Houses, has been owned by the same family since its founding in 1776. Over the centuries, the House has become synonymous with artisanal quality, meticulous vineyard care, and an unwavering commitment to crafting some of the world’s finest Champagnes.
From the very beginning, Louis Roederer recognised that the essence of great Champagne begins in the vineyard. Today, more than 70% of the grapes are sourced from the House’s own estate—the highest proportion of vineyard ownership among major Champagne producers. This allows for precise control over grape quality, ensuring each cuvée embodies Roederer’s dedication to excellence. In favourable vintages, select wines are aged in large oak casks, building complexity and consistency through a reserve wine system.
Between 1832 and 1870, under the guidance of Louis Roederer himself, the House experienced a remarkable rise, achieving worldwide acclaim and exporting hundreds of thousands of bottles to Russia and the United States. In 1876, Louis Roederer II honoured Tsar Alexander II by creating the exclusive Cristal cuvée—an innovation that remains a global benchmark for luxury Champagne.
Conceived in 1876 for Tsar Alexander II, Cristal is a symbol of elegance and purity. It is produced only in exceptional years, using grapes from Roederer’s finest sites. A rigorous selection process applies to every step—from the vintage and crus to the grapes themselves—ensuring Cristal’s enduring reputation as one of Champagne’s most revered cuvées.
By harmonising tradition, innovation, and a profound respect for terroir, Louis Roederer continues to produce Champagnes that reflect both centuries of expertise and a vision for the future. Whether enjoying the vibrant Collection 244 MV, the structured Brut Vintage, or the iconic Cristal, one can taste the passion and precision that define this historic House.
